The thyroid is a gland that is low in the front of your neck, right below your Adam's apple. When functioning normally, you cannot feel it. The thyroid secretes several hormones, "thyroid hormones", the main hormone being thyroxine, or T4. This hormone is present throughout the body and influences growth and development, metabolism, and body temperature. When your thyroid is not functioning optimally you can develop thyroid disorders such as goiters, hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Your thyroid maintains your metabolism, so we have to be careful what we eat. By feeding ourselves toxic foods we are essentially sabotaging our thyroid. Tap water is commonly infiltrated with fluoride, if you think your water contains fluoride try testing your water to see if you are affecting your health. Another product that often contains fluoride is toothpaste. Fluoride is linked directly to hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid). Try using a filter on your tap water and not consuming or using any products that contain fluoride! Your thyroid will thank you!
