Toxins That Are Sabotaging Your Thyroid!

The thyroid is a gland that is low in the front of your neck, right below your Adam's apple. When functioning normally, you cannot feel it. The thyroid secretes several hormones, "thyroid hormones", the main hormone being thyroxine, or T4. This hormone is present throughout the body and influences growth and development, metabolism, and body temperature. When your thyroid is not functioning optimally you can develop thyroid disorders such as goiters, hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Your thyroid maintains your metabolism, so we have to be careful what we eat. By feeding ourselves toxic foods we are essentially sabotaging our thyroid. Here are some foods that we should not eat and other products we should avoid, because they are not helping our bodies, especially our thyroid's.

Toxins Sabotaging Your Thyroid

Soy- it prevents your body from using iodine, a mineral that is converted into thyroid hormone! It also interrupts the conversion of T4 to T3 (active thyroid hormone). So I products are genetically modified and toxic to your endocrine system!

Commercially Prepared Baked Goods- these goods often contain a substance called potassium bromate, a dough conditioner that belongs to the bromide family! Bromides compete with your thyroid to capture iodine so skip the packaged pastries and bread and choose whole grains that are prepared fresh!

Non-Organic Fruit and Vegetables- once again, bromide is the problem! Pesticides used on many fruits and vegetables contain this thyroid disruptor! Try to eat locally grown organic produce that does not contain any pesticides!

Plastics- plastic is pretty much everywhere you look, phthalates and BPA are common components of plastic and both produce thyroid function! Well it's not entirely possible to live in a plastic free environment you can limit your exposure yourself. Buy liquid in glass jars whenever possible, and never heat your food in plastic containers since the harmful substances leech into your system more rapidly!

Antibacterial Products- in small doses they are appropriate however, antibacterial soap's and other products contain a substance called triclosan! The substance is an endocrine disruptor that impairs your thyroid function as well as if it's hormones such as estrogen! 

Heavy Metals- because of poor diet, lack of exercise and stress, your body may not be able to eliminate aluminum, mercury and lead. The build up of these minerals compete with other minerals that your body needs which leads to inflammation and sometimes auto immune disorders that lead your body to attack the thyroid! Drink only filtered pure water, avoiding processed foods, eating plenty of green foods, and getting regular exercise will help your body to properly I'm in a toxic metals and keep your thyroid healthy!

Mold- mold itself is not toxic, but some types of mold produce mycotoxins! These can be extremely toxic to your health. They sometimes produce a musty smell, but not always. Some people may experience mild irritation and develop an allergy to mold while others will lead to more serious health conditions, with time. These mycotoxins will negatively effect your immune system. Exposure to mold initiates an inflammatory process and this can lead to the development of an autoimmune condition. These include hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis!

Fluoride- fluoridated water and products are sabotaging your health, especially your thyroid! Tap water is commonly infiltrated with fluoride, if you think your water contains fluoride try testing your water to see if you are affecting your health. Another product that often contains fluoride is toothpaste. Fluoride is linked directly to hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid). Try using a filter on your tap water and not consuming or using any products that contain fluoride! Your thyroid will thank you!

Emotion- it is important to take care of your mental health. When dealing with a thyroid disease, you can experience mixed emotions. Letting your emotions get out of control can be detrimental to your thyroid health. Try to maintain a healthy emotional state to ensure that your thyroid is functioning properly.
